IMG_2741cHeadlamps in one form or another have been around at least 100 years or so if you go back to the old carbide miner's lamps.  As modern technology has made them smaller and lighter, they've transitioned from industrial and specialty use to pretty common pieces of kit for today's outdoorsmen.  Despite that, I've somehow managed to keep from trying one out until recently!  I'm something of a flashlight nut, and have more than my fair share of lights, but I've resisted the headlamp urge until now.

4SevensPreonQuark-009cI was bitten by the flashlight bug when I was about 7 or 8 years old.  My grandmother had gotten me my first penlight, and I imagined myself to be a spy of international reknown.  I had a lot of adventures with that penlight, and considered myself on the cutting edge of technology when the 8 Track was still king. Oh, I wish I had the chance back then to play with today's toys, including the new Preon 2 and Quark MiNi from 4Sevens.  I would have had a blast!

EnergizerLantern-007cAfter hearing about our upcoming outing down in North Carolina, a rep from Energizer offered up their new Outdoor Area Lantern for review during the event.  Not having used this type of lighting before, I was curious to gauge its performance and utility in the outdoors.  Needless to say, I was pretty well satisfied especially when I saw the welcoming glow at my camp at the end of each fun-filled day.
